This Day In History :

The Beatles

On this day in 1964 The Beatles arrived in the United States for the first time to make their debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. Beatlemania swept the nation in the ’60s and the music continues to capture new fans over half a century later. The Beatles not only left a legacy with their music but also as icons of a cultural revolution.

Conducting a search of The Beatles in our Community History Archives returns more than nostalgia for music fans. Newspaper coverage allows us to observe events as they happened, but also display the shift in culture over time. The headline of one article from April 1964 read “Beatles Are on Way Out” stating that Beatlemania won’t last much longer.
