Advantage Preservation has partnered with the Ansonia Historical Commission and Ansonia Library of Connecticut on a project to digitize hundreds of microfiche reels of the Evening Sentinal, a “weekly newspaper that served the Valley community for almost 100 years!”
This project has been made possible thanks to a grant from the the Valley Community Foundation. The twenty five microfiche reels dating from August 1896 to October 1904, were sent to the Advantage Preservation offices in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they will be digitized to create a keyword searchable archive available online.
The Valley Community Foundation recognized the value in digitizing the newspapers; protecting, preserving and providing access to the history of the lower Naugatuck Valley.
“The Ansonia Historical Commission and The Friends of the Ansonia Library are grateful for the support of the Valley Community Foundation for helping to initiate the project. We will continue to investigate other available grants and fundraising opportunities so that all the reels can be securely archived and preserved for future generations.
