A project to digitize the entire historical collection of the Mapleton Press has been completed, giving the people of Mapleton, Iowa a full newspaper record of the history of their town.
These newspapers (previously only available on microfilm) are fully searchable by name and keyword, making finding historical events quick and easy.
The microfilm versions of the newspaper are also still available and up to date through 2011 and are recognized as the strategy for long-term preservation. This project was designed to provide accessibility to that microfilm content that was not widely available prior to digitization. The newspaper images are now provided as .pdf files, which can be downloaded, printed out, or saved to a thumb drive.
The project was funded by the Monona County Community Partners Foundation, with the assistance of the Friends of the Fisher-Whiting Memorial Library. Digitization was performed by Advantage Preservation out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
