Advantage Preservation:

Durant Democrat Being Preserved for Future Generations

Advantage Preservation has partnered with the Donald W. Reynolds Library in Durant, Oklahoma to digitize the Durant Daily Democrat and other area newspapers dating back to the late 1800’s.

The newspapers are first sent to Advantage in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to be preserved on microfilm. The microfilm rolls are then digitized and made available online at donaldwreynolds.advantage-preservation.com.

The Digital Archives of The Donald W. Reynolds Community Center & Library allows patrons to search over 15 different titles and 175,000 pages for people, places or events by keyword as well as browse by title or date.

Newspapers currently in the archive include the Durant Daily Democrat, The Durant Weekly News, Bryan County Democrat, The Southeastern Oklahoma Citizen, Independent Farmer and The Blue County Democrat.

“It’s a massive project, digitizing all the back issues, but once we have it caught up to date, it will be really cool.” Stated Angie Mullen in Library Administration.

The Donald W. Reynolds Library and it’s employees share our passion for preserving this history for future generations. To read more or find out how you can contribute to the Donald W. Reynolds Library Digitization project please visit the article in the Durant Daily Democrat.
