Villisca Axe Murders

The Villisca axe murders, known as “Iowa’s favorite mystery”, is the unsolved case of the Moore family and two young visitors who were all killed with an axe while they slept on the night of June 9th, 1912.

Over 100 years later the notorious crime continues to draw interest and has been the subject of several books and movies.

The small town of Villisca now holds tours of the old “murder house” and the home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
