The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

With temperatures dipping well below zero in Iowa this month, many cyclists will be dreaming of warm days in July and the rolling bike party that is RAGBRAI.

RAGBRAI or The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa is named for sponsor and Iowa newspaper The Des Moines Register. What is now “the oldest, largest and longest week-long bicycle touring event in the world” started with two local columnists and a bicycle ride across the state of Iowa.

RAGBRAI is now a tradition not only for Iowans but riders from every state and all over the world. With a new route every year starting in the west and ending in the east on the banks of the Mississippi River, the RAGRAI rout covers over 450 miles with stops in eight Iowa communities.

So forget tomorrows forecast and start planning for those seven warm days in July as the RAGBRAI route for 2018 is set to be announced a the end of the month – Saturday, January 27th.
